Thursday of the First Week in Ordinary Time (1/12/23)

Readings: Heb 3:7-14/Mk 1:40-45

The theme that connects Hebrews 3:7-14 and Mark 1:40-45 is the role of Jesus as a savior who offers redemption and healing to those who believe in him and follow him.
According to Christian belief, Jesus' role as high priest offers redemption and healing to those who follow him because he intercedes on their behalf before God and helps them to overcome their stubbornness and disobedience.

As high priest, Jesus is seen as a mediator between God and humanity, who intercedes on our behalf before God. He is believed to be able to understand and sympathize with our weaknesses because he himself was fully human. Through his intercession, Jesus helps us to overcome our stubbornness and disobedience and to turn back to God in repentance and faith.

Through his death on the cross, Jesus is also seen as having made the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity, paying the price for our reconciliation with God and making it possible for us to be forgiven and to have eternal life with him.

By following Jesus and having faith in him, Christians believe that they can receive forgiveness for their sins and have eternal life with God. They also believe that Jesus offers healing and restoration for the effects of sin in their lives, including physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. Overall, Jesus' role as high priest, combined with his death and resurrection, is seen as the means by which he offers redemption and healing to those who follow him.

In Hebrews 3:7-14, the author writes about how Jesus, as a human being, was made lower than the angels for a little while, but he was also crowned with glory and honor. The passage emphasizes that Jesus is the faithful high priest who intercedes on our behalf before God and helps us to overcome our stubbornness and disobedience.

Mark 1:40-45 describes an incident where a leper comes to Jesus, asking to be healed. Jesus has compassion on the man and touches him, healing him instantly. This passage highlights Jesus' power and authority to heal and restore people, and it serves as an example of his role as the savior and the deliverer of humanity. Overall, these passages depict Jesus as a savior who offers redemption and healing to those who believe in him and follow him.
